Since moving to Jordan I’ve been very conscientious to stay away from boycotted brands and I’m always checking labels on all types of products to see if they’re based in Jordan. When it comes to buying new workout clothes, athleisure, and loungewear, I wanted to stay away from the big brands because…
- Nike sells products in stores in Israel, occupied Palestine, and has sponsorship deals with several Israeli athletes and teams.
- Adidas uses Israeli manufacturer, Delta Galil, to manufacture its underwear range.
- Puma is the main sponsor of the Israel Football Association (IFA), which includes teams in Israel’s illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land.
- New Balance operates retail stores in Israel, imports its products there, and also sells through Israeli e-commerce platforms. Moreover, New Balance has been a sponsor of the Jerusalem Marathon.
- FILA has been the technical sponsor of Maccabi Tel Aviv FC, an Israeli football club, since 2019.
On top of boycotting these big brands for Palestinian liberation, it’s also always a great idea to support local businesses.
Here are two sportswear brands I’ve found, tried, and recommend that are Jordanian-born and bred:
Sheerjoy
Local Jordanian and mompreneur, Sara Alsmadi, founded this company in 2017. Her clothes are designed exclusively for women. She offers loungewear, yoga wear, and even a maternity line. My favorites so far are the loungewear sets and the biker shorts. The packaging the items are delivered in is very cute and makes it perfect for gifting as well.
