Where to find Authentic Indian Food in Amman

We recently moved to Amman after spending nearly a decade in South India. That means both of my kids grew up on a diet of idli, dosa, dahl, chapati, paratha, channa, chutneys, etc. Recently my 5-year-old was craving Indian food and we ended up at Tandoori Oven in Abdoun. We had a delicious meal of channa (chickpea) gravy, mixed veg curry, paratha, naan, and biryani, but my kids were still on the hunt for a place that has idli and dosa. I decided to ask around the expat community for more suggestions for great Indian food in Jordan and luckily some of the places also serve up idli and dosa. Below are the top suggestions for where to find authentic Indian food in Amman. Also, if you’re an Indian living in Jordan, you can follow and join the ICJ (Indian Community in Jordan) here.

Tandoori Oven

The food was really delicious in our opinion. They have a real tandoor oven which my son enjoyed watching them make naan bread in while we waited for our meal. They also have beer and wine on the menu. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any Kingfisher brand beer (we wish!). I also really liked that it was smoke-free indoors.

Indish

Indish is Indian-owned, so you know it has to be authentic. They also have a weekly brunch every Friday and Saturday (from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) with typical Indian breakfast foods like idli, dosa, vada, sabji poori, chole batture, and more! My husband is a big biryani fan so he tried that as well and he said it was delicious.
