When I found out I was pregnant, I turned to a few expat parent WhatsApp groups to ask for recommendations for OBGYNs. The name that kept popping up was Dr. Arafat Samara. He is certified by the American Board and was practicing in New Jersey and New York before starting his clinic in Amman, Jordan.
Things I liked about Dr. Arafat Samara:
- friends who had complicated pregnancies and births found that he was extremely good
- he does not push C-sections
- his appointments are usually timely
- he was knowledgeable about delayed cord clamping, the golden hour, and delayed bathing
- he does not push circumcision
- he is personable, you don’t feel like you’re just a number, and being pushed to finish your appointment quickly
- he has a private clinic in the 4th circle, so you don’t have to fight the traffic to Abdali Hospital for all the appointments
- you give birth at Abdali Hospital, which is a very luxurious hospital in Amman
- as with most doctors in Amman, his English is perfect, so there is no language barrier
